Lovely dinner tonight with friends. One of my absolute favorite meals is any sort of Indian cuisine. Another of my favorites … hidden gems. La Mesa holds a lovely hidden gem, tucked away in a strip mall.
It boasts offerings from Nepal, the Himalayas, and India. In a word … delicious.
We love to order family style and taste a little bit of everything. Tonight’s offerings:
Mango Chicken, Aloo Gobi, Tandoori Chicken (served sizzling),
And my favorite … Chicken Tikka Masala and Naan bread
I appreciate places who serve good food, in an unpretentious atmosphere, and simply know who they are. Himalayan Cuisine, for those of us wanting Indian food options, is one of those places. The wait staff was friendly and efficient, the owner stopped by our table to check on our meal and service.
They kindly offer a variety of heat levels for those of us with different tastes. Choose 1 (not spicy) to 10 (blow your face off). We collectively chose a 3, wanting our mouths to tingle with the melange of spices. Indian (and in the case Himalayan) food is a wonderful combination of creamy sauce, pungent spices, and soft bread.
Not a long post today, but a yummy one, nonetheless. Consider those hidden gems tucked away in unexpected places. Often hidden from the mainstream, they offer wonderfully surprising moments.
I’d be curious to hear about other people’s hidden gems. Post in the comment below.
